Play Maker Award
On Friday 3rd February a group of our sports crew and mini-leaders attended the Play Maker training at the Post Mill Centre in South Normanton.
The Play Maker Award is a great introduction into leadership for pupils and is a formal accreditation from Sports Leaders UK. The main aim of the award is to provide pupils with the skills to set up simple games and activities that they are familiar with and feel confident to assist in leading small group of peers or younger children under direct supervision.
During the day the children gained the skills to set up simple games and activities that they can use in school. They learnt about how to set up activities using PACE:
P - Participation: How to select teams fairly, involving all pupils and the importance of adapting activities to suit the group.
A - Area: How to adapt activities to suit the space of the area they are working with.
C - Communication: How to use our voice to control activities and the importance of gestures and demonstrating.
E - Equipment: Assessing the use of equipment in our areas and adapting equipment to suit the ability and size of the group.
All of our sports leaders had a fantastic time and came back full of ideas that they are eager to try at school!
