Class One Autumn Term One
The first half term has been a very busy one in class 1. We have settled in well and have been learning lots of exciting things.
In English we have based our learning around different stories. We have looked at We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Tiger who came to Tea and Delicious. Year 1 have been learning all about sentences this half term. We have been making sure that our sentences have capital letters, finger spaces and full stops and checking that they make sense. We have written our own stories and have been using adjectives to describe characters, places and vegetables.
Reception have been learning new sounds in phonics, writing their name and doing lots of speaking and listening. We have been on a bear hunt, made tiger masks and used the mud kitchen to make pumpkin soup. We're Going on a Bear Hunt
In class 1 we have been looking at the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ We have been doing lots of speaking and listening activities, asking questions and describing the bear. Year 1 wrote their own versions of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ Reception made binoculars and went on a bear hunt and made caves for the bear to live in.
For the last 2 weeks class 1 have based all there English learning around the story Delicious by Helen Cooper. We have been looking at the characters in the story and what they are like and have answered questions about the story. We have also been looking closely at the different vegetables that are in the story and using our senses to describe them. We used the vegetables to make vegetable soup and we then wrote instructions on how to make it. Everyone tried the vegetable soup and most of us liked it. Some of the children said it was delicious, scrumptious, tasty and yummy. Others described it as not nice, disgusting and horrible.
Year 1 have been developing their number skills. We have been looking at numbers to 30, adding and subtracting, how many 10s and 1s in a number and finding pairs of numbers that make 10 and 20. We have been looking a shape and symmetry and investigating lines of symmetry as well as designing symmetrical patterns. We have been developing our problem solving and reasoning skills.
Reception have been learning numbers to 10. We have been ordering the numbers, writing numbers and counting objects. We have also been looking at and naming shapes and making repeating patterns.
